Enabling C4 to move from intuition to informed ministry decisions

C4 exists to help people become everything God created them to be. Ediphai connected their Planning Center and PushPay data, then layered in formation data from the Ediphai app, so their leaders can see people clearly and shepherd them more effectively.

C4 calls itself a dream-releasing church. Its conviction is simple and serious: everyone deserves humble leaders and faithful friends who will help them become everything God created them to be. That is a beautiful mission, and it is also a hard one to do at scale. You cannot release people you cannot see, and like most growing churches, C4 was not short on data. It was short on a way to see it.

Attendance lived in Planning Center. Giving lived in PushPay. Group rosters, kids check-ins, youth nights, and registrations each sat in their own corner. The information existed, but no single leader could hold the whole picture at once, and the questions that mattered most for shepherding took days of exporting and stitching spreadsheets to answer, if they got answered at all.

C4 is not a church to attend, it is a family to belong to. Ediphai helps its leaders know that family by name.

Ediphai connected directly to C4’s existing systems and brought every source into one governed warehouse. What follows is C4’s journey in three phases: discovering what their operational data already knew, adding the formation data of the people themselves, and then putting all of it into action, so the church can release more people into what they were made for.

01Discovery

Seeing what the data already knew

The first phase was not about new behavior. It was about finally seeing the behavior that was already happening across Planning Center and PushPay. C4’s team started asking the questions they had always wanted to ask, and Ediphai answered them in seconds.

Giving, finally legible

For the first time, C4 could watch giving move as a living trend rather than a year-end report. Annual giving has climbed steadily, up more than 30 percent across the last two years, while recurring gifts hold near a third of all giving, a sign of a stable, committed base.

The platform also exposed a quiet opportunity. Mobile giving accounts for only around five percent of total dollars, even as the congregation lives on its phones. That single insight reframed a stewardship conversation that numbers alone had been hiding.

Site expansion, side by side

C4 is no longer one room. Across three campuses, including its newer Waipahu site, leaders can now compare engagement, giving, and group health between locations on the same screen. Expansion decisions that used to rest on instinct now rest on a clear read of where each site is strong and where it needs attention.

Who is actually engaged

Attendance is a number. Engagement is a pattern. By connecting check-ins, group membership, serving, and giving for the same person, Ediphai let C4 see who is leaning in, who is drifting toward the edges, and who looks active on Sunday but is connected to nothing else. That is the difference between counting a crowd and knowing a congregation.

Circles and small group health

C4’s small group life is substantial: more than 170 active groups holding over 1,300 people, led by 146 leaders. Within that, the Circles ministry alone runs 54 groups and gathers more than 500 people. Ediphai surfaces which Circles are thriving, which are quietly shrinking, and which leaders are carrying more than they should, so the church can pour into groups before they fade rather than after.

Youth ministry, in full view

C4’s youth gathering, Collide, is one of the most active rhythms in the church, with more than 13,000 Thursday-night check-ins on record. Leaders can now track who keeps showing up, who came once and never returned, and how youth engagement connects back to their families, instead of guessing from a room full of teenagers.

Kids ministry check-ins

Kids ministry is the single largest stream of check-ins at C4, more than 24,000 of them. Ediphai turns that flood of individual scans into something a leader can use: family attendance patterns, first-time guest follow-up, and a clear view of which weekends and which sites are growing the next generation.

The faithful giver no one had met

One of the first things C4 did with the platform was look closely at its most generous givers. A name surfaced in the top five percent of all giving, someone almost no one on the leadership team recognized.

Pulling up that person’s history told the story: they rarely engaged anywhere, with a single exception. They had quietly attended a women’s ministry event. So the team connected the women’s ministry pastor with them. The pastor reached out, checked in, and simply thanked them for their faithfulness and generosity.

A member who had been invisible was suddenly known and appreciated. Without the data, they would have stayed a number.

Before Ediphai, our data was honest but silent. We had everything and could see almost nothing. Now an analysis that used to take our team hours, sometimes days of exporting and stitching spreadsheets together, takes about five minutes. That speed has changed how we make decisions as a staff.

Shepherding people by design

Operational data tells a church what people do. It cannot tell a church who people are. Phase two added that missing layer through the Ediphai app, where members engage with AI coaching, daily reflection, and assessments that reveal their design and their spiritual gifts. With consent, that formation data flows back to C4’s leaders.

Two things became visible that no church management system has ever held. First, a person’s design: their passions, temperament, and interests, the shape of how God wired them. Second, their spiritual gifts, measured through Ediphai’s own assessment. Over 100 C4 members have completed the gifts assessment, and that data is consent-gated, never exposed without the member’s permission.

Share of assessed members carrying each gift in their gift mix
Hospitality39%
Service37%
Discernment35%
Faith33%
Exhortation30%
Leadership29%

A picture like this changes the questions a leadership team can ask. When hospitality and service are the most common gifts in the room, the church knows where its instinctive strength lies. When it needs to fill a teaching role, a worship team slot, or a new Circle leader, it no longer guesses or asks for volunteers and hopes. It can look for the people whose gifting, calling, and passion already point that direction, and invite them on purpose.

From a volunteer gap to a person God prepared

This is the heart of phase two. A leader who needs a Circle host can find the member with hospitality in their gift mix who has been quietly faithful but never asked. A pastor preparing to launch a new ministry can see who carries leadership and faith together. People stop being slotted into whatever role is open and start being placed where they are skilled, called, and alive. That is shepherding, not staffing.

Why this matters for C4 specifically: formation data is the one thing a competitor cannot copy or buy. It is generated by C4’s own people, owned with their consent, and it compounds. The longer the congregation engages, the sharper the picture becomes.

A story from C4

Releasing leaders into what they were made for

C4 is always launching something new, and every new initiative needs leaders. The vision has never been the hard part. Knowing who is ready and wired for the work has been.

This is where the formation data changes everything. By combining a person’s design, their passions, temperament, and interests, with their spiritual gifts, the platform helps C4 place people into roles they are genuinely interested in and gifted for, not just roles that happen to need filling.

This is the kind of knowledge a pastor would normally only earn through years of close relationship, and no pastor has the time to know every member that deeply. The platform gives leaders that depth at a glance.

In other words, it lets C4 dream release people more effectively, which is the whole point.

The data platform shows us how our church is moving and the formation data shows us who our people are. Together they help our whole team lead better, because we finally understand how the people at C4 are growing and where they need us. We are not leading an average anymore, we are leading real people.

Turning insight into action

Insight that sits in a dashboard changes nothing. The third phase is where C4 puts what it now sees into motion, week after week. The platform does not just report the church, it points the staff toward the next right move and lets them act on it.

C4 did not change platforms to get here. It connected the ones it already had, then added a formation layer that extends the work of Sunday into the rest of the week. The data was always there. Ediphai is what finally let C4 see it, and then act on it. That action now looks like a set of concrete rhythms across the team.

Leadership teams formed around the insights

Recommendations no longer die in a meeting. C4 is standing up leadership teams to own specific findings the platform surfaces, a team to strengthen the Circles that are quietly shrinking, a team to grow mobile and recurring giving, a team to close the loop on first-time kids and youth guests. The data sets the agenda, and a named group of leaders carries it.

Staff reaching people before they drift

When the platform flags someone whose engagement is falling off, attendance thinning, a group left, giving gone quiet, it stops being an anonymous trend line. A staff member or leader makes the call, sends the text, sets up the coffee. C4 now does pastoral follow-up on early warning signs instead of noticing people only once they are already gone.

A story from C4

The family who almost missed camp

A family that had given generously for years hit a hard season when their business began to struggle. Quietly, they had decided not to send their child to summer camp. They did not ask for help, and in the past that decision would have gone unnoticed.

The platform surfaced it. Connecting the family’s history of faithful generosity with a camp registration that never came, it gave the team a reason to look closer. Knowing all this family had poured in, the leadership team chose to scholarship the child so they would not miss out.

The conversation that followed was not transactional. In a season when they needed it most, the family felt appreciated, loved, and genuinely seen by their church.

Placing people by gifting, on purpose

The formation layer turns staffing into shepherding. When a Circle needs a host or a ministry needs a leader, C4 looks for the member whose gifts, calling, and passion already fit, and invites them by name. People are placed where they were designed to serve, and they last longer there because the role fits who they are.

One source of truth for every decision

Budget conversations, campus comparisons, volunteer planning, and ministry reviews now start from the same numbers. The staff stop debating whose spreadsheet is right and start deciding what to do, which is the point of having the data in the first place.

About Ediphai
Helping churches see people clearly so they can care and disciple faithfully.
A ministry engagement and insight platform for church leaders.

Churches collect a significant amount of data across many systems, but because that information is spread across different tools, it is difficult for leaders to see the patterns that matter for ministry or understand the full picture of engagement. Ediphai connects a church's existing systems into a single data platform.

Key components

  • An individual church data warehouse that serves as a unified, single source of truth
  • Secure integrations with systems like Planning Center and PushPay
  • Integration with the Ediphai Growth Profile in the mobile app for formation data

Security and data privacy

  • Each church has its own secure data environment
  • Churches maintain full ownership of their data
  • Access is permission-based
  • Leaders only see information relevant to their role

Let's talk

Help your church release more people

C4 set out to help people become everything God created them to be. Ediphai gave its leaders the sight to actually do it, on the systems they already run. The same is possible for your church.
